Men’s Pole Vault added as non-Diamond discipline
The Men’s Pole Vault has been added to the 50th Edition of The Prefontaine Classic and will feature current world record holder and Olympic gold medalist Mondo Duplantis. The Men’s Pole Vault will be contested as a non-Diamond discipline that promises high flying results.
Already regarded as the greatest men’s pole vaulter of all time, Duplantis has broken the world record 10 times since 2020. Two of those world records have been set at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The fifth world record in his progression occurred at the 2022 World Athletics Championships Oregon22 with a 6.21m jump, and his seventh world record took place at the 2023 Prefontaine Classic, which served as that year’s Wanda Diamond League Final, with a 6.23m jump. The current world record (6.26m) was set by Duplantis in August 2024 at the Silesia Diamond League meeting.
The two-time Olympic Champion also owns two World Outdoor titles and two World Indoor titles in the event. Over the past four years, Duplantis has gone on to win every Wanda Diamond League Final.
