Headliners for this year’s Pre Classic Women’s 1500m and Men’s 110m Hurdles were announced by the meet organizers earlier this week, adding even more of the world’s best track & field stars to an already stacked event.
This year’s Pre Classic women’s 1500m is headlined by some of the best athletes over the distance:
Diribe Welteji (Ethiopia) is the second-ranked woman in the world over 1500m with a personal best of 3:53.93. The reigning World Athletics Outdoor silver medalist owns the current world record in the women’s road mile (4:20.98), set in 2023. Currently ranked third in the event globally, Laura Muir (Great Britain & Northern Ireland) owns a silver medal from the Tokyo Olympic Games along with seven national records, ranging from the 1000m to the 5000m short track. Joining these ranked athletes are Elle St. Pierre (U.S.A.), the reigning World Athletics Indoor champion in the women’s 3000m; Nikki Hiltz (U.S.A.) the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships 1500m silver medalist; and Oregon Duck alumna Jessica Hull (Australia), a four-time national champion who holds six national records spanning from the 1500m short track to the 5000m.
The men’s 110m hurdle field sees a rematch of last year’s Pre Classic top finishers:
Grant Holloway (U.S.A.) is a multi-time world champion and has rewritten three world records over the course of his career thus far. Widely regarded as the greatest-ever 60m hurdler, Holloway has gone unbeaten in the event for 10 years and broke his own world record just this year at the USATF Indoor Championships. Outdoors, Holloway earned a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games and a gold medal at the 2019, 2022, and 2023 World Athletics Outdoor Championships in Budapest in the 110m hurdles.
Hansle Parchment (Jamaica) looks to defend his 2023 Pre Classic title in the men’s 110m hurdles. At last year’s event, which served as the Wanda Diamond League Final, Parchment ran a world-leading and personal best 12.93 seconds to take home the diamond trophy. The two-time national champion is a two-time Olympic medalist as well, having won gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games and bronze at the London Olympic Games.
Daniel Roberts (U.S.A.) enters the field as a three-time national champion in the men’s 110m hurdles, claiming the title in 2019, 2022, and 2023. Following his most recent national title, Roberts won bronze at the 2023 World Athletics Outdoor Championships and finished third at the 2023 Pre Classic.
